Using natural stone for fireplaces, fire surrounds and hearths

As highly skilled stonemasons, we can design and make natural stone fireplaces that give a wonderful traditional look to your home or building. Our natural stone fireplaces are suitable for use with electric fires, wood burning stoves and gas stoves as well as fireplace inserts. We work with a wide range of stone types for our fire surrounds and hearths. JB Stone Masonry is a specialist stone masonry supplier so we hold a good stock of natural stone at our Wrexham yard. In particular, limestone and a variety of UK sandstones including Cheshire red sandstone.

Every job in natural stone is different. Each stone is sawn from large quarry blocks to your specified dimensions and then handcrafted. Please be aware this can be a lengthy process. Make sure you leave plenty of time from the point of ordering your fireplace, surround or hearth to the point when you need it installed by.

Stone is a natural material like wood and, like wood, has a grain. The colours and patterns of natural stone enhance the beauty of our products. How does our fireplace design process work?

JB Stone Masonry will help you design a unique bespoke fireplace for your home or building. We provide a full measuring and design service for every stone fireplace and use the highest standards of skill and workmanship creating our fireplaces. We will rise to any challenge you may set us and can usually reproduce any features you envisage. If there could be an easier and more economical way to create the same effect you are after, we will advise you. Hearths can be sawn to any size and thickness and we can also make round or curved hearths.

We are happy to come out to any customers located in Chester and Wrexham. But we will also go further afield across Cheshire, Flintshire, Denbighshire and the Wirral. We will carefully take all measurements to ensure your new fireplace, surround or hearth will work with your room, fire opening and chimney breast and discuss all the ideas you have. Using CAD, we will design your fireplace then submit the design proof to you either by email or on good old fashioned paper! This way you can make sure you are happy with the plan and if not, give any feedback necessary to ensure you get exactly what you want.

We specialise in bespoke products. No two pieces will look the same.

Every piece of natural stone is unique in its grain and overall appearance so we cannot guarantee its exact look. But that’s part of what makes it so special. We will create a design for you that is tailored to exactly what you want. We don’t do off the shelf and that means it will take time from the point of placing your order to having the finished item.

But the end result will be well worth it!

Also, due to how delicate our fire surrounds are and their length is usual longer than a pallet the risk of damage during transport by a pallet courier is to great, we won’t ship a fireplace.

A final bit of advice!

Natural stone is a porous material and may stain. You probably wouldn’t let someone put a glass of red wine down on your new carpet so don’t let them put it down on your natural stone fire surround either! The good news is natural stone can usually be cleaned. All you need is a bucket of clean water and a clean sponge or scrubbing brush (but not a wire brush).
